Visualization is literally defined as "To form a mental image of." In remote sensing and GIS, it is defined as the process of using satellite imagery and GIS data layers to view an area of land in a different way than normal. For example, using AVHRR imagery and NDVI values to view vegetation greenness instead of the actual vegetation.
